Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our Himalayan treks, safety protocols, packing essentials, and booking policies.

1. Booking & Trip Preparation

You can book directly through our website by choosing your preferred trek and clicking "View Details" to reserve your slot. Alternatively, submit your details via our WhatsApp prompt or contact our support team directly to receive personalized guidance and booking links.

Fitness requirements depend on the trek's difficulty level (Easy, Moderate, or Difficult). For moderate treks like Kedarkantha or Chopta, you should be able to comfortably jog 5 km in under 35 minutes. We recommend starting light cardio and leg-strengthening exercises 3–4 weeks prior to your trek.

Yes! Treks such as Kedarkantha and Chopta Chandrashila are beginner-friendly and ideal for first-time trekkers with basic physical fitness. Har Ki Dun is slightly longer but beginner-accessible if you prepare physically in advance.

You will need a valid government-issued photo ID (Aadhaar Card, Passport, or Driving License), a signed medical fitness certificate signed by a registered practitioner, and a disclaimer form provided by Trek Aura.

Cancellations made 30+ days prior to departure qualify for a full refund (minus minimal processing fees). Cancellations made between 15–29 days qualify for a 50% refund or a voucher credit for future treks. Cancellations within 14 days are non-refundable. Know More

2. Health, Altitude & Safety

Our itineraries are designed with proper acclimatization days. Trek leaders carry pulse oximeters to check oxygen levels daily and carry complete medical kits, including portable oxygen cylinders. If a trekker shows severe AMS symptoms, our team immediately assists with descent to a lower altitude.

All Trek Aura guides are certified in Basic Mountaineering Courses (BMC), Advanced Mountaineering Courses (AMC), and Wilderness First Aid / Search & Rescue (S&R) protocols, backed by 5 to 12+ years of Himalayan experience.

Absolutely. Over 40% of our trekkers are solo female travelers. We prioritize safety by offering gender-segregated tent/homestay sharing options, experienced certified staff, and a zero-tolerance policy regarding harassment.

We provide high-quality 3-season or 4-season dome tents, sub-zero sleeping bags, crampons/microspikes, gaiters, safety ropes, oxygen cylinders, and comprehensive first-aid kits.

Our ground team monitors weather forecasts continuously. In cases of sudden weather turns or blocked trails, leaders alter routes or delay climbs for safety. Emergency evacuation protocols and local support networks are always active.

3. Food, Stays & Logistics

We serve fresh, high-energy vegetarian Pahadi and North Indian meals prepared using organic local grains (like Mandua and Jhangora), pulses, and vegetables. Meals are designed to be easily digestible and nutritious at high altitudes.

Depending on the trek segment, accommodation varies between authentic Pahadi homestays with local village families and high-grade camping tents pitched in alpine meadows.

At base camps or homestays, basic clean indoor toilets are available. On trail camps, we set up eco-friendly dry toilet tents equipped with sawdust to ensure hygienic and environmentally responsible practices.

We collect water from clean natural mountain streams, which is then boiled or treated with purification tablets before distribution to trekkers. We encourage carrying reusable thermos flasks to avoid plastic bottles.

Mobile networks (primarily BSNL and Airtel) are available at roadheads and base villages, but coverage drops significantly or disappears completely once you cross base camps on higher trails.

4. Gear, Packing & Offloading

Essential items include: sturdy waterproof trekking shoes with ankle support, a 50–60L rucksack, 3–4 layers of warm thermal clothing, a fleece/down jacket, rain poncho/gaiters, personal medication, UV sunglasses, and a headlamp.

Yes. If you prefer not to carry your heavy main rucksack, offloading service (via mules/porters) is available for an additional nominal charge. You will only need to carry a lightweight 20–30L daypack for water and personal essentials.

Yes, rental gear including trekking poles, ponchos, headlamps, gaiters, and winter jackets can be requested at the time of booking or arranged at our base camp hubs before the trek begins.

You can safely store extra travel bags, city clothes, or valuables at our base camp homestay/base office free of charge before starting your climb up the trail.

Uttarakhand offers trekking year-round: December to March is ideal for snow treks (Kedarkantha, Chopta), April to June offers blooming rhododendrons and lush green bugyals, and September to November offers clear skies with spectacular peak views.
